Alpenfreibad Scheidegg (open air pool)

Scheidegg waterfalls
Discover the habitat around the “Rohrachschlucht”, one of Bavaria’s hundred loveliest geotopes, and enjoy enchanting views over the river banks and the Scheidegg waterfalls. The water in the Rickenbach tumbles down over two massive steps in the rock, creating falls measuring 22 m and 18 m respectively; the two adjacent waterfalls can be admired from several viewpoints.
“Heimathaus” handicraft museum
A visit to the “Heimathaus” handicraft museum is an absolute must. Over a period of many years, and with incredible attention to detail, volunteers from the Scheidegg History and Museum Society have collected and restored anything and everything which could be salvaged from “the good old days”.

The reptile zoo’s over 60 realistically equipped terraria house an astounding selection of various reptiles including crocodiles, lizards, monitor lizards, poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, plus spiders and scorpions. Mainau, the island of flowers
From the middle of May until October visitors to the park can admire a series of art installations entitled “longing for the islands”, following the motto “Yearning for the sun – islands of the south”, each one dedicated to a specific theme. “Proper” or better known islands constitute the backbone of the exhibition, and lend the installations their names. As is to be expected on the island of Mainau, plants form a key part of the presentation. Visitors have the opportunity to relax and wind down as they study the background information provided on each individual island

Whether you want a whole-day outing or a short walk, a proper hiking track or a discovery trail, there is something here for everyone.
An extensive selection of entertainment for children, including a summer toboggan run, minigolf course, petting farm, bungee trampoline, electro cars and diggers, can be found right next to the bottom station of the cable car. The gondolas offer easy accessibility for child buggies, wheelchairs and bikes.

Füssen and the Royal Castles (90 km)

The legend began when the king was still alive. "I want to be an eternal riddle, both to myself and others”, Ludwig once wrote to his governess, and today this enigmatic man is as mysterious as ever. (In the summer of 2021 the exterior of Neuschwanstein castle was renovated and covered in scaffolding). Since the death of Ludwig II his castles, where guests were never allowed, have been visited by more than 50 million people. The stone edifices stand to this day, witnesses to the king’s idealised fantasy world. Entry tickets for Schloss Neuschwanstein are available exclusively from the Hohenschwangau ticket centre below the castle. Please buy your tickets here before making your way up to the castle.
Altusried (Allgäu open-air theatre 49 km)
Featuring a number of unusual cultural events, the Allgäu open-air theatre in the Festival village of Altusried boasts one of the finest outdoor stages in Germany. This year, from 6th July to 5th August 2021, it will host an open-air stage production of the renowned musical “My Fair Lady", based on Bernard Shaw’s "Pygmalion" and the film by Gabriel Pascal.
Ottobeuren Benedictine Basilica (80 km)
Public tours of the church are available every Saturday from April to October (except Easter Saturday) at 14.00. Duration approx. 30 - 40 minutes. Afterwards you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy coffee and cakes in the monastery cafè. Open from 10.00 to 17.30.
